The moment you have the notion that we are really information instead of bodies or souls, then you have that possibility of techgnosis.
- Erik Davis,
Techgnosis, 1998

The word techgnosis was invented by Erik Davis in an article in 1994 and used as the title of his 1998 book, Techgnosis - Myth, Magic and Mysticism in the Age of Information. One of the interesting books I picked up from the library, more because of its impressive cover design than content. Anyways, Mr. Davis talks about spirituality and its interaction with today's technology. To quote another of Mr. Davis' arguments: "For many Net users there’s a spiritual component to their links with it, and that valid comparisons can be made with earlier technological developments that also became metaphors for our view of the world"

Heavy stuff ??? Yeah, I know... that was somewhere on Page 38 of this 398-page "techno-culture fusion" saga. I finally gave up on page 42 to devote more time on watching sit-coms on TBS.

The point of the introductory passage was to illustrate the clear influence of internet on our present day lives. In this age of blogs and its 'grey language' cousins like Mob-blogs, Audio-blogs, Vblogs, etc. the site is my attempt at having a representation in the Cyber-world.

Early Disclaimer: THIS SITE IS NOT AN AUTOHAGIOGRAPHY.

For starters, the foundation of this site was more of an academic assignment as part of my MBA. Those were times when my site was apparently a part of the "deep web" (7,500 terabytes of web data that can’t be reached at all by the conventional search technologies, read Google & Yahoo). As it happens, occasionally I go on my ego-surfing trips around the net by means of searching my name on popular search sites. Almost certainly, all my previous attempts had resulted in me reaching articles that detailed the political squabbles between Suresh Kalmadi's Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi and Sharad Pawar. One fine day, my personal objet d'art astonishingly cropped up as the first result. My site was now a proud megabyte member of the exclusive 19 terabytes of accessible data on the net or the "surface web".

In its present form, the website stands updated (far from its historical artifact form) and I plan to keep it current. Of course, for latest updates on current GDP growth, Inflation rate and the US Trade Gap, you obviously are at the wrong place. Evidently, I can provide a link to the Bureau of Economic Analysis website for that, but hey... then why stop at that...I could provide links to a lot of other things including India's research center in Antartica (Dakshin Gangotri) or Jeremy Bentham's site on modern utilitarianism. You get the point, right ?

Anyways, barring this personal rendition of "site trivia" and a small profile along with the resume of myself, the site is my attempt at disseminating worthwhile information which hopefully appeals to the interest of a wide range of Netizens.

Finally, thanks for visiting and keeping the site counter ticking !

Vikas Pawar.
